Setting Health and Wellness Intentions for 2023

December 23, 2022

The new year is here, and it is time to set some intentions. We want you to make this year an amazing one, and we know that wellness is key to doing so.

Wellness is a buzzword that we hear a lot and one that we are proud to be part of. But what does it mean? Wellness is about much more than just your health. It is about how you feel mentally and spiritually, as well as how you feel physically. It is about taking care of yourself, so you can take care of others.

That's why we want to help you set some intentions for 2023 to help you feel better inside and out! You probably already have a few things on your plate: work, family, friends, and so on. But maybe this year could be different. Perhaps this year could be about taking care of YOU first.

Here are five simple tips to help you make that happen.

Know Your Why

One of the most important things you can do to improve your overall well-being is to know your "why".

The why is the reason behind your intention, which will help keep you motivated and focused on achieving your goals. It's the fuel that keeps you going when times get tough and trust us, they will get tough!

To set wellness or overall wellbeing intention for 2023, start by asking yourself: Why do I want this? What is my motivation for wanting this change? What can I achieve by setting this goal? What do I hope will happen as a result of achieving this goal?

You can also ask yourself these questions about your short-term intentions: How does setting this goal benefit me personally? How does it help my family? How does it benefit my community or workplace? How does it benefit society in general?

Once you know your way, you can easily set your goals and intentions for the upcoming year.

Think of Goals, Not Resolutions

Have you been thinking about what you want to accomplish in the next 365 days? You have probably already made your resolutions for 2023, but maybe you haven't thought about how to make them stick.

Let's face it: resolutions don't always work out. They are usually too vague, or they are made just because everyone else is making them. If you really want to achieve your goals this year, try setting intentions instead of resolutions.

Intention is a commitment to yourself that's more specific than a resolution and helps keep you accountable throughout the year.

When setting intentions for the new year, it's essential to consider what makes YOU happy and not what other people expect from you or what society tells us we should be doing with our lives.

A lot of times, we get wrapped up in other peoples' expectations and forget about our own wants and needs as individuals. And that can lead us down a path where we feel unhappy and unfulfilled in our own lives because we aren't living up to other people's expectations or following through with something we promised ourselves (or someone else) that we would do!

goal writing

Write Down and Share Your Goals

2022 was a rollercoaster of a year, and we're ready to move on. It's time to set some intentions for 2023 and write them down!

When you're feeling stressed or overwhelmed, it can be hard to think clearly about what you want out of life. Writing things down can help you focus your energy on what matters most to you, so you can make decisions based on your values.

We all have different priorities; some people might want to focus on their family or their relationships in the new year, while others might want to focus more on their career or financial success. Whatever goal is crucial to you, make sure it's written down somewhere so you don't forget it!

Here are some questions we've asked ourselves when setting our intentions for 2023:

What do I want my life to look like?

How do I want my relationships with other people (friends/family/colleagues) to be? How will I feel when this happens?

What kind of person do I want to be?

Who am I going to surround myself with?

Once you've answered these questions, take a moment and write down exactly how they will manifest themselves in your life over the next year! Healthy habits are often formed by setting specific goals that align with your overall wellbeing goals.

vision board

Create a Vision Board

One of the best ways to stay accountable to your goals is to create a vision board. This can be done in many ways, but the easiest is with an app like Pinterest, which has boards set up for just about anything. You can also use an online tool like Canva to create your vision board.

Once you've created your vision board, post it somewhere where you'll see it daily. It can be on your fridge door, or bathroom mirror are great options! The more visible your vision board is, the more likely you'll be able to track what you're working towards and how far along you are in achieving those goals.

Your vision board doesn't have to be fancy or expensive, just something that helps you keep track of what matters most at this point in time.

affirmations

Use Affirmations to Support Your Intentions

Affirmations are short phrases that remind us of what we want from life and how we can achieve it. These positive thoughts are easy to write down and read over again during those moments when we need extra motivation or encouragement.

For example, if you'd like to improve your health this year, try writing down things like: "I'm eating well" or "I'm exercising regularly." You can also use affirmations to help you with more personal goals. For example, if you're trying to save up for a special trip. Or, if you want to practice self-love more often, write down things like "I am kind" or "I love myself."

You can write these affirmations on sticky notes and place them around your home or office to be visible throughout the day. They will remind you what matters most and give you strength when times get tough!

woman

Ready, Set, Go!

When it comes to your health and wellness, you deserve to be your best self. And that means setting intentions for what you want to achieve this year—and then following through on them!

You don't have to make huge changes overnight, just set some small goals that will help you get there. For example: maybe this year, instead of just going for a walk every day, try walking twice as far or three times as often. Or perhaps instead of just eating an apple every morning, start eating two apples every morning.

The point is that when we set achievable goals and take action each day, we can progress toward our larger vision of ourselves.
